Larry Ostola

Over the course of his career in the field of history and heritage conservation, Larry held a variety of senior positions. This includes Vice-President of Heritage Conservation and Commemoration with Parks Canada, where he was responsible for national policy and legislation related to National Historic Sites and heritage conservation. He also served as Secretary to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and is former Director of Museums and Heritage Services with the City of Toronto, responsible for ten museums and a large portfolio of heritage buildings.

Larry has published numerous articles related to Canada’s history and heritage; in 2021 he edited the Champlain Society volume Your Most Obedient and Affectionate Son: James Wolfe’s Letters to His Parents 1740-1759. And on the occasion of Quebec City’s 400th anniversary, he co-authored the publication Military History of Quebec City 1608-2008. He is currently a host of the Canadian history podcast “Witness to Yesterday” and restores federal historical plaques in his spare time.
