Mathew Preston is an Edmonton-based writer and government relations consultant who has worked as a defence industry consultant in Ottawa and a security and geopolitical risk consultant on Bay Street. Previously Preston was Chief of Staff to the Acting Leader of the Alberta Party. He brings a depth of knowledge and experience outside of politics – from farming to fighter planes. Preston grew up on a family farm in northeastern Alberta, was an avid 4H member as a child, and later was a volunteer fire fighter for over ten years. He still helps out on the family farm. Preston holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from Grant MacEwan University in Calgary, and a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the University of Calgary’s Centre for Military, Strategic, and Security Studies. He is the publisher and editor of Alberta Review, a Substack dedicated to federal and provincial politics.
